Prospects for Resumption of Peace Talks Between Iran and the US

Washington. Efforts are underway to resume peace talks between the United States and Iran. Signaling this development recently, the US President stated that contact is being established with "good people" within Iran. Iran, too, may potentially be willing to engage in peace talks, likely with the objective of extending the ceasefire deadline.

However, reaching a consensus on the conditions put forth by both sides is no easy task. The issue of the Strait of Hormuz—the impact of which is being felt across the entire globe—is also a central part of this equation. Until the shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz are fully reopened to traffic, the difficulties faced by India and other Asian nations will persist.

Extensive efforts are being made to transform the current ceasefire into a permanent one. The President of Russia has offered to mediate in the peace negotiations.

The US administration is, in principle, prepared to engage in dialogue with Iran; the focus now lies on persuading Iran to agree to these talks. The resumption of peace negotiations—and the emergence of a meaningful outcome—is a matter of critical importance for the entire world. Meanwhile, India's exports of various products are currently being adversely affected.
