New Delhi. This time the government has expressed the possibility of reduction in soybean production and increase in mustard production at the national level as compared to last year.
On June 4, the third advance estimate of crops produced in the 2023-24 season was released by the Ministry of Agriculture.
In this, the production of oilseed crops was estimated at 395.90 lakh tonnes, which is about 4 percent less than the total production of 413.60 lakh tonnes of the 2022-23 season.
According to government estimates, during the 2023-24 season, compared to the 2022-23 season, soybean production declined from the peak level of 149.90 lakh tonnes to 130.50 lakh tonnes, while on the other hand mustard production increased from 126.40 lakh tonnes to 131.60 lakh tonnes.
The interesting fact is that the production estimate of groundnut has been retained at last year's level of 103 lakh tons whereas the production of castor has been estimated to fall from 20 lakh tons to 19 lakh tons.
Apart from soybean, mustard, groundnut and castor, India also produces oilseed crops like sesame, sunflower, linseed, niger seed and safflower.
This is the third advance production estimate of the Union Agriculture Ministry whereas the fourth and final estimate will be released after a few months.
There may be some change in the production figures in the fourth advance estimate as compared to the current estimate.
