The Export Inspection Council (EIC) of India, under the Ministry of Commerce, is taking significant steps to enhance food testing facilities and infrastructure to expedite the export process of food products.

As part of these efforts, EIC is conducting a comprehensive study to identify the existing gaps and deficiencies in the food testing infrastructure. This study is focusing on specific commodities and regions to evaluate the most pressing issues.

The analysis is expected to be completed within two to three months, following which a detailed plan will be developed to address the identified problems and expand testing facilities in a commercial and efficient manner.

India exports a wide range of food products, such as Basmati and non-Basmati rice, pulses, oilseeds, maize, guar gum, spices, cashews, fruits and vegetables, livestock products, and processed foods.

Ensuring high-quality exports is a priority for India, with efforts focused on preventing adulteration and maintaining the global reputation of Indian food products.

To further streamline the process of food product export, the EIC is also working on launching an integrated traceability module.

This system will improve inspection, testing, and certification processes, thus supporting the growth of India's food exports.
