Pepper Market Update
Price Support: The rise in pepper prices has been supported by increased demand.
Production and Imports: Despite increases in both production and imports this year, the market has continued to grow.
Production Growth: Sowing in Tamil Nadu and Kerala has increased, leading to an expected production of over 100,000 tons, up from 85,000 tons last year.
Stock Availability: There is also a stock of 51,000 tons from the previous season.
Imports and Consumption: India imported 40,000 tons of pepper, with annual consumption remaining at 130,000 tons.
Global Production: Global pepper production in 2024 is expected to be 533,000 tons, which is 10,000 tons less than the previous season.
Vietnam’s Weather Impact: Due to adverse weather conditions, Vietnam’s pepper production has seen a significant decline. However, production is expected to recover to 200,000 tons in 2025, up from 170,000 tons in 2024.
Spice Board Forecast for 2025: The Spice Board of India has estimated production of 77,000 tons for 2025.
Exports: From April to September, India exported 10,150 tons of pepper, which is 2,000 tons more than the previous year.
Market Outlook: With increased stock, growing production, and rising imports, there is a likelihood of greater availability of pepper in the future, which may affect the market. Hence, it is advised to capitalize on the current market situation.
