Coimbatore. Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has predicted normal rainfall during the southwest monsoon in the state this year.

Most districts are expected to receive rainfall close to the long period average (LPA) with a variation of up to 10 percent.

This includes districts such as Coimbatore, Tirupur, Karur, Namakkal, Vanvasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Kanyakumari.

For the past few days, pre-monsoon rains had been occurring intermittently across various parts of Tamil Nadu, and monsoon rains have now begun.

Tamil Nadu has 38 districts in total, and specific rainfall estimates have been made for each of them. The Agro Climate Research Center at TNAU in Coimbatore used the Australian Rainman International V. 4.3 software to generate these predictions.

The estimates are based on the Southern Oscillation and sea surface temperatures in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. According to the university, there is a 60 percent chance that the forecast will prove accurate.

Tamil Nadu is the southernmost state in India and sees widespread cultivation of paddy, pulses, oilseeds, coarse grains, and sugarcane during the Kharif season.

It is also among the 10 Indian states where BT cotton is grown. Good rainfall is also likely in the Cauvery Delta region, with 175 mm predicted in Karur district and 280 mm in Tiruvarur district.
