News Capsule: Pulses Export from Canada & Australia: India Emerges as Top Buyer
★ India continues to dominate the global pulses market as a key buyer, with strong imports from both Canada and Australia.
Canada Exports (Stats Canada):
★ Lentil exports in February 2026 rose to 185,794 tons, while total shipments during August–February 2026 stood at 1.376 million tons, slightly lower year-on-year. India was the top importer with 63,369 tons.
★ Pea exports were recorded at 189,315 tons in February, with total exports at 1.511 million tons for the season, lower than last year. India remained the largest buyer with imports of 95,446 tons.

Australia Exports (ABS):
★ Lentil exports stood at 179,335 tons in February, with total shipments during November–February 2026 reaching 959,799 tons, significantly higher year-on-year. India was again the top importer with 81,364 tons.
★ Desi chickpea exports surged to 292,347 tons in February. However, total exports during August–February 2026 were 1.349 million tonnes, lower compared to last year. India imported 231,197 tons, making it the largest buyer.
★ India imported a total of about 471,376 tons of pulses from Canada and Australia combined. This included Lentils 144,733 tons, Desi chickpeas: 231,197 tons & Peas: 95,446 tons
★ Strong demand for desi chickpeas, along with steady imports of lentils and peas, reinforces India’s position as the leading demand center in the global pulses market.
