News Capsule: Myanmar Earns $1.8 Billion from Pulses, Maize and Sesame Exports in 2025-26
★ Myanmar earned around $1.8 billion from exports of various pulses, maize, and sesame seeds during the 2025-26 financial year. The country exported 1.77 million tonnes of pulses, 1.23 million tonnes of maize, and more than 117,000 tonnes of sesame seeds during the period.
★ Major export destinations included India, Thailand, the Philippines, China, and Vietnam. Myanmar is among the world’s leading pulse-producing countries, while the agriculture sector contributes more than 30% to the country’s GDP.
★ Around 10 million acres in Myanmar are used for pulses and beans cultivation, accounting for nearly 33% of the country’s total agricultural production.
