News Capsule: India Soymeal Consumption Seen Falling, Exports to Rise
★ India’s soymeal consumption is projected to decline by around 7% in 2026–27. According to the USDA Foreign Agriculture Service, poultry and livestock producers are increasingly shifting from expensive soybean meal to more cost-effective alternatives such as DDGS and de-oiled rice bran.
★ Meanwhile, exports are expected to grow strongly, with shipments of non-GMO Indian soymeal to Europe likely to rise by 13%. Rapeseed meal exports are also projected to increase by about 10%, with China emerging as a key buyer.
★ Soybean acreage and production are both expected to decline by around 3%, as farmers shift toward more profitable crops like corn and wheat. Production is estimated to fall to approximately 10.35 million tonnes.
★ Overall, the domestic soymeal market is likely to remain under pressure due to weaker demand, but higher exports are expected to provide some balance.
