News Capsule: Chana Market Maintains Uptrend; Tight Arrivals and Strong Demand Signal Further Price Rise
★ The domestic chana market continued to witness a bullish trend, supported by shrinking arrivals, firm consumer demand, and limited government stock sales.
★ In Delhi's Lawrence Road market, chana prices increased by INR 25 per 100 kg on Thursday to INR 6,425–6,450 per 100 kg, reinforcing the positive sentiment across major markets.
★ In Madhya Pradesh's Dahod market, chana prices rose by INR 100 per quintal to INR 5,850–6,400 per quintal, while prices in Bikaner, Rajasthan, increased by INR 50 to INR 6,050 per quintal. Strong buying interest continues to support the market.
★ Demand for besan (gram flour) and other processed chana products has picked up during the monsoon season. In addition, advance buying for the upcoming festive season has begun, leading to a price increase of around INR 200 per 100 kg over the past few days. Prices could rise by another INR 200 per quintal in the near term.
★ Arrivals of the rabi crop have declined significantly, with most of the available supplies being absorbed to meet day-to-day consumption. At the same time, the government has been releasing only limited quantities of chana from its buffer stocks. No fresh tender has been issued in Madhya Pradesh for the auction of government-held chana stocks over the past few days, raising concerns over future supplies.
★ If the government completely halts the sale of its chana stocks, supplies could tighten sharply, triggering a strong rally in prices. Under such a scenario, chana prices may climb to INR 7,000 per 100 kg.
