News Capsule: Bangladesh Imports Indonesian Soyoil to Control Domestic Edible Oil Inflation
★ Bangladesh has purchased around 18,000 MT of refined soybean oil from Indonesia in a strategic move to stabilize domestic edible oil prices and ensure adequate supply availability for consumers.
★ The deal was awarded to Indonesia-based PT Trinity Chaya Energy at a purchase price of $1.151 per litre, with the total contract valued at nearly $23.02 million. The estimated landed cost in Bangladesh is reported at Tk 178.56 per litre (around $1.45/litre).
★ For the global edible oil trade, the deal indicates that South Asian demand for imported vegetable oils remains active despite elevated international prices and freight costs.
