Maharashtra: Sugar Production Declines Compared to Last Year
As of December 26, sugar production in Maharashtra was 8.9 lakh tons lower compared to the same period last year.
Sugar mills crushed 303.53 lakh tons of sugarcane, down from 395.36 lakh tons last year.
Sugar output stood at 25.81 lakh tons, compared to 34.7 lakh tons last season.
Sugar recovery rate dropped from 8.8% last year to 8.5% this year.
This season, 189 sugar mills are operational, compared to 203 mills last season.
Regional Highlights:
Pune region: 31 mills crushed 76.54 lakh tons of sugarcane, producing 6.59 lakh tons of sugar.
Kolhapur region: 39 mills processed 70.06 lakh tons of sugarcane, producing 7 lakh tons of sugar with a 10% recovery rate.
Solapur region: 41 mills crushed 53.04 lakh tons of sugarcane, producing 3.98 lakh tons of sugar with a 7.52% recovery rate.
Production has declined in other regions as well.
