Maharashtra Kharif Sowing 2025: Maize and Bajra See Big Surge, Drop in Rice and Ragi
Kharif sowing for 2025 has picked up pace in Maharashtra. According to the latest data from the State Agriculture Department (as of 16 June 2025):
Maize sowing has reached 1.32 lakh hectares, up by 74,176 hectares compared to the same time last year.
Bajra has also seen a sharp rise, with the sown area increasing by 56,797 hectares.
Jowar sowing has registered a modest rise of 264 hectares.
However, some crops have shown a decline:
Rice sowing is down by 4,766 hectares.
Ragi has seen a worrying drop of 857 hectares in sown area.
It is worth noting that the monsoon arrived early in Maharashtra this year, which has led to a higher sowing pace in the initial phase. The real picture will become clearer only towards the end of the sowing season.
