Maharashtra Kharif 2025: Oilseed Sowing Sees Big Surge, Soybean Emerges as Top Choice

Oilseed sowing in Maharashtra has gained strong momentum this Kharif season. As of June 16, a total of 3.35 lakh hectares have been sown under oilseeds — an increase of nearly 1.55 lakh hectares compared to the same period last year.

Soybean has shown the most significant jump, with the sown area rising from 1.76 lakh hectares last year to 3.22 lakh hectares this year — an impressive gain of 1.46 lakh hectares.

Groundnut sowing has also increased notably, from 3,452 hectares last year to 11,618 hectares this year — a jump of nearly 8,000 hectares.

Sowing of sunflower, sesame, and niger has also picked up slightly. However, there has been a decline in the sowing of other oilseeds.

It is important to note that the monsoon arrived early in Maharashtra this year. As a result, the initial sowing figures are naturally higher than last year.

The true picture will emerge only by the end of the sowing period.
