Lentil prices soften in Canada due to limited trading

Regina. Lentil prices in Canada are trending lower due to favorable crop progress, rising temperatures, and weak demand.
The FOB farm-gate price for large green lentils for July-August delivery has dropped to 22–23 cents per pound. Despite this, many buyers are showing little interest in purchasing lentils.
With the next new crop expected to be ready and arrive in markets by August-September, buyer attention has shifted towards it; the contract price for the upcoming large green lentil crop is reportedly 23 cents per pound. The market for small green lentils remains completely quiet.
There is some trading activity in red lentils, keeping prices stable at 23–24 cents per pound—slightly higher than that of large green lentils. Lentil sowing has been successful, and crop conditions are reported to be satisfactory. Production in Australia is also expected to increase.
