Sydney. The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has stated that the La Niña weather cycle is currently active in the Pacific Ocean.
Its activity typically leads to good rainfall in India, whereas the El Niño weather cycle, on the other hand, poses the risk of drought and drought.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has already predicted that the La Niña weather cycle could remain active in India from December 2028 to February 2026.
Meanwhile, the Indian Ocean Dipole is currently in a negative phase but is steadily weakening. It is likely to become neutral in December. If the La Niña weather cycle remains active, it could prove beneficial for the Rabi crops.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, events occurring in the Pacific and Indian Oceans clearly indicate the activation of La Niña.
Temperatures in the tropical Pacific Ocean are expected to remain at La Niña levels until early next year and may then return to a neutral phase. Weather centers in many other countries are also acknowledging the presence of La Niña.
Rabi crop sowing is currently underway in India and will likely continue until January. If La Niña activity results in good rainfall in January and February, the Rabi crops can be better supported and farmers' irrigation costs can be reduced.
Temperatures are also expected to remain at a reasonable level in February and March, which will particularly benefit wheat, barley, gram, lentils, and mustard crops, and their production is expected to increase.
