Kharif 2025: Pulses Sowing Picks Up – Early Estimates

India's Kharif 2025 pulses sowing has begun with an encouraging start. As per the initial data, total sowing under pulses has reached 3.07 lakh hectares, which is 0.47 lakh hectares more compared to the same period last year.

Moong (Green Gram): Sown over 1.56 lakh hectares, registering a sharp rise of 1.18 lakh hectares over last year – the highest increase among all pulses.

Urad (Black Gram): Coverage stands at 0.43 lakh hectares, up by 0.25 lakh hectares year-on-year.

Tur/Arhar (Pigeon Pea): Sowing is at 0.30 lakh hectares, showing a decline of 0.11 lakh hectares from last year.

Other Pulses: Sown on 0.73 lakh hectares, up by 0.14 lakh hectares.

 Outlook:

It is still too early to draw conclusions, as sowing has just begun. A clearer trend in acreage will emerge over the next one month as monsoon progresses and sowing picks up pace.
