International Cotton Market
In Friday’s session, ICE cotton futures closed 45 to 66 points higher, with the July contract up 348 points. Crude oil prices fell by $0.19 per barrel, while the U.S. Dollar Index gained 0.113 points.
The Friday afternoon Commitment of Traders report showed spec traders cut their net short in cotton by 2,946 contracts as of June 24, bringing the total to 48,085 contracts.
Weekly Export Sales data shows total cotton export bookings (shipped and unshipped) at 11.696 million running bales—109% of USDA’s forecast, but behind the 5-year average of 115%.
A Bloomberg survey expects Monday’s Acreage report to show 9.7 million acres of cotton planted this spring.
The Seam reported just 1,788 bales sold in Thursday’s online auction, with an average price of 64.80 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index was up 50 points at 79.15 on June 26. ICE cotton stocks fell by 9,641 bales on June 26 due to decertification, leaving certified stocks at 51,495 bales.
USDA’s Adjusted World Price (AWP) was up 15 points on Thursday, at 54.18 cents per pound.
