According to the Export Inspection Report, the U.S. exported a total of 878,380 metric tons (34.58 million bushels) of corn during the week ending December 26. This marked a 23.36% decline from the previous week but a 54.14% increase compared to the same Christmas week last year. Mexico was the largest destination, receiving 292,428 metric tons, followed by Japan with 191,326 metric tons. Total shipments for the marketing year reached 15.359 million metric tons (604.67 million bushels), 28.52% higher than the same period in 2023/24.
A delayed Commitment of Traders report from the CFTC showed that as of December 24, spec funds added just 1,532 contracts to their net long position in corn futures and options, bringing the total to 160,947 contracts. Commercial traders added 1,069 contracts to their net short position, increasing it to 395,621 contracts by last Tuesday.
