The Madhya Pradesh government has announced new incentives and upgrades for rice millers to encourage efficient custom milling of paddy and the timely supply of rice during the 2023-24 Kharif marketing season. The state cabinet, chaired by the Chief Minister, made the decision to increase these incentives, which are expected to provide significant relief to rice millers in the state.

Key details of the announcement include:

  • Custom Milling Rate: Rs 10 per quintal of paddy.
  • Incentive Amount: Rs 50 per quintal.
  • Upgradation Amount:
    • Rs 40 per quintal for millers supplying 20% of the rice to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) within the stipulated time.
    • Rs 120 per quintal for those supplying 40% of the rice to FCI within the same timeframe.

The goal is to encourage millers to complete their milling quotas quickly and deliver the rice to FCI warehouses. This will ensure adequate stock for the Public Distribution System (PDS) and other welfare schemes, and any surplus rice will be deposited in the Central Pool for national reserves.

This initiative is aimed at streamlining the milling process, maintaining food security, and enhancing the state's contribution to the national rice supply.
