Heavy damage to Kharif crops in Andhra-Telangana due to floods and rains

Vijayawada. Due to continuous heavy rains and waterlogging in the fields, Kharif crops in lakhs of acres of land in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been damaged, which mainly include red chilli, cotton, paddy and pulses.

Due to floods and rains in 47 mandals of Andhra Pradesh, crops have been submerged and fields and barns have been submerged.

Officials have been put on full alert. They are assessing the damage to the crops and helping the affected farmers.

The situation is likely to worsen in the coming time due to regular heavy rains. Kharif crops have also come under threat in other areas.

On the other hand, Telangana is also facing the crisis of heavy rains and severe floods. According to rough estimates, Kharif crops have been destroyed in about 2-2 lakh hectares of area in both the states.

According to agricultural experts, although the paddy crop can recover after a few days when the flood water recedes, cotton, pigeon pea and red chilli crops can suffer heavy losses.

Water should not be stored in the fields of these crops for a long time. A senior official of Andhra Pradesh says that about 2 lakh farmers in 20 districts of the state have been affected by this flood-rain, while in five districts,

main Kharif crops in 1.69 lakh hectares and horticultural crops in 19 thousand hectares have suffered heavy losses.

On the other hand, the Telangana government has predicted more damage to crops in about 2 lakh hectares in the state.

The agriculture department is still engaged in assessing the damage. The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of more rain in the next few days.

Compensation has been announced for farmers in Telangana and it is also being considered in Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rain and floods have also caused other types of damage in both these states.
