Government Wheat Procurement in Ratlam District to Begin from March 16

Bhopal: New arrivals of wheat have started in the mandis of Ratlam district, an important wheat-producing region of Madhya Pradesh. However, due to the absence of government procurement so far, prices have fallen significantly below the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Currently, wheat prices in Ratlam mandi are reported to be between ₹2,100 and ₹2,300 per quintal, which is much lower than the MSP of ₹2,585 per quintal announced for the current Rabi season (2025–26).
The Madhya Pradesh government has announced an additional bonus of ₹40 per quintal over the MSP for farmers in the 2025–26 season. With this bonus, farmers will effectively receive ₹2,625 per quintal. Government procurement of wheat in the district is scheduled to begin from March 16, and a total of 65 procurement centers have been established in Ratlam district. All necessary preparations for procurement have been completed, and farmer registrations have already been done.
It is understood that due to early harvesting, the moisture content in wheat grains is still relatively high, which is why traders are not willing to purchase wheat above ₹2,100–₹2,300 per quintal. Small and marginal farmers, who are facing cash shortages, are being forced to sell their wheat quickly at these lower prices.
