Efforts will be made to achieve the high target of agricultural production of 2024-25

New Delhi. The Union Agriculture Ministry has set a target of producing 34.04 crore tonnes of food grains for the 2024-25 season, which includes Kharif production of 15.997 crore tonnes, Rabi production of 16.40 crore tonnes and Zaid production of 1.643 crore tonnes.

During the Zaid season of 2023-24, 144.80 lakh tonnes more food grains production has been estimated, which also includes 89.70 lakh tonnes of rice, 25.20 lakh tonnes of maize, 11 lakh tonnes of millet and 16.60 lakh tonnes of pulses.

After consultations with various states, the Union Agriculture Ministry has set a target of production of 1363 lakh tonnes of rice, 1150 lakh tonnes of wheat, 299 lakh tonnes of pulses, 447.50 lakh tonnes of oilseeds and 592 lakh tonnes of coarse grains (including Shri Anna) for the 2024-25 season.

The production target for maize has been set at 388.50 lakh tonnes and the production target for barley has been set at 22.50 lakh tonnes.

Both of these come under the category of coarse grains, while other millets including jowar, bajra and ragi are called Shri Anna.

The production target of Shri Anna has been fixed at 181 lakh tonnes. Out of this, a production target of 143.70 lakh tonnes has been set for the Kharif season, 26 lakh tonnes for the Rabi season and 11.30 lakh tonnes for the Zayed (summer) season.

For the 2024-25 season, a target has been set to produce a total of 299 lakh tonnes of pulses including 45 lakh tonnes of tur (tuvar), 30.50 lakh tonnes of urad, 42.50 lakh tonnes of moong, 136.50 lakh tonnes of gram and 16.50 lakh tonnes of gram. The target has been set to produce 95 lakh tonnes of pulses in the Kharif season and 181.50 lakh tonnes in the Rabi season, while the remaining pulses will be produced in the Zaid season.
