Idukki. On the direction of the court and after consultation with all the parties, the Spices Board decided to ban re-pooling in the auction process of small cardamom. Different opinions are coming out on the profit and loss arising from this.

The General Secretary of Vandanmedu Cardamom Growers Association says that the new decision of the board will help in stopping the re-pooling of cardamom by some groups under the banner of auction centers and the auction business group will be prevented from unloading the stock of cardamom in huge quantities.

Till now it was seen in many cases that the same person was the buyer and seller of cardamom.

Some dealers were using the platform of the Spices Board for fraud or irregularities, which will now be banned.

But the Kerala Cardamom Dealers Chamber says that this new rule of the board will have a deep adverse effect on the interests of small producers of cardamom in future.

It is mandatory for cardamom producers to register themselves to sell their produce in auction centres, but small producers do not register themselves and sell their produce directly to traders.

These traders do re-pooling of cardamom. These producers will suffer losses if re-pooling is banned.
