New Delhi. During the first three weeks of last month (November), sales of chemical fertilizers (manure) increased by 6 percent.
This included a 12 percent increase in urea sales and a 7 percent increase in DAP fertilizer sales.
On the other hand, sales of muriate of potash (MOP) remained stable, while sales of other fertilizers declined by 5 percent.
However, a deeper analysis of the data reveals that fertilizer sales doubled in the first week of November, but declined by 12 percent in the following two weeks, and farmers also complained of inadequate supply.
According to information received, total sales of four major categories of chemical fertilizers during November 1-21, 2025, reached 47.17 lakh tons, compared to 44.52 lakh tons during the same period last year.
Under this, the sale of urea increased from 20.95 lakh tonnes to 23.42 lakh tonnes and the sale of DAP improved from 10.53 lakh tonnes to 11.29 lakh tonnes.
The sale of MOP remained stable at 1.67 lakh tonnes but the sale of complex fertilizers decreased from 11.37 lakh tonnes to 10.79 lakh tonnes.
In the Rabi season, wheat, barley, maize, sorghum, gram, lentils, peas and mustard etc. are cultivated on a large scale and all these crops require chemical fertilizers. Wheat requires it more because it has the largest area.
