DDGS Market Buoyant Amidst Quality and Supply Challenges

New Delhi. During a roundtable conference organized by the Grain Ethanol Manufacturers Association (GEMA) for 'DDGS Market Connect 2026,' speakers noted that while the quality and supply of Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS) in the market are on the rise, there are clear indications of a steady increase in its demand and consumption.

Experts opined that the growing demand for DDGS within the Indian animal feed manufacturing industry is a positive development. Manufacturers, they suggested, should focus on enhancing both the quality and consistency of their product supply.

On this occasion, the President of GEMA presented a detailed overview of the Indian DDGS portfolio, observing that there remains some variability in the quality of the product. He noted that pricing trends vary, and that challenges persist in the manufacturing process.

According to the President, the market price for DDGS produced from rice is significantly higher than that of DDGS produced from maize or mixed grains, primarily because it possesses a higher content of protein and amino acids.

However, the protein content found in rice-based DDGS varies depending on the specific variety of rice used. Conversely, DDGS produced from maize tends to have a higher oil content, as oil extraction from maize is not a common practice in India.
