Chickpea production projected to increase by over 6 lakh tonnes

New Delhi. The Central Government has estimated domestic chickpea production to increase to 117.92 lakh tonnes in the current Rabi season of 2025-26, which is 6.78 lakh tonnes more than the production of 114.14 lakh tonnes in the 2024-25 season.

Official data shows that previously, domestic chickpea production was 110.39 lakh tonnes in the 2023-24 season, 122.67 lakh tonnes in 2021-23, and 135.44 lakh tonnes in the 2021-22 season.

According to available data, the total area under chickpea production at the national level reached 91.22 lakh hectares in the 2024-25 Rabi season,

which increased by 4.66 lakh hectares to 95.88 lakh hectares in the 2025-26 season. There is also a possibility of some improvement in the average yield rate of gram.
