Chana procurement slows down, govt extends deadline till mid-July: Informist Media
★ The government has extended the chana (chickpea) procurement deadline for the second time — now until mid-July. Earlier, the deadline was extended from May 31 to June 30.
★ So far, a total of 310,000 tonnes of chana has been procured.
State-wise procurement figures:
Gujarat: 1,50,000 tonnes
Madhya Pradesh: 99,000 tonnes
Rajasthan: 50,000 tonnes
Maharashtra: Only 3,000 tonnes
★ With procurement now closed in Madhya Pradesh, the government is focusing on Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Gujarat for further purchases.
★ The original procurement target was 2.8 million tonnes, which was later revised down to 1.0–1.5 million tonnes, and now further reduced to 400,000–500,000 tonnes.
