Hyderabad: The Union Ministry of Agriculture has approved the procurement of more than 1.25 lakh tonnes of pulses and oilseeds in the southern state of Telangana during the 2026 Rabi Marketing Season. The procurement from farmers will be carried out at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

The crops approved for procurement under MSP include 29,860 tonnes of gram (chana), 37,020 tonnes of urad, 55,285 tonnes of groundnut, and 3,680 tonnes of sunflower. The total value of these pulses and oilseeds at MSP is estimated to be over ₹894 crore, and the required funds will be allocated by the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to the Union Agriculture Minister, the government aims to protect farmers from fluctuations in market prices so that they receive a fair return for their hard work. He stated that the approval granted for Telangana will not only help pulse and oilseed farmers receive remunerative prices, but will also encourage increased production of these crops.

This decision will provide financial security and relief to farmers, ensuring they are not forced to sell their produce at distress prices in the open market. It is noteworthy that gram, urad, sunflower, and groundnut are widely cultivated during the Rabi season in Telangana, and crop conditions this year are reported to be normal.
