Canada’s Lentil and Pea Exports Lag Behind Last Year

Vancouver: According to data released by the Canadian government agency Statistics Canada, lentil exports declined from 249,856 tonnes in December 2025 to 165,342 tonnes in January 2026. During January, Canada shipped 63,346 tonnes to Turkey, 30,788 tonnes to India, and **22,255 tonnes to the UAE.
In the first half of the current marketing season (August 2025–January 2026), Canada’s total lentil exports reached 1,190,843 tonnes, which is about 2% lower than the 1,221,225 tonnes shipped during the same period of August 2024–January 2025.
As for peas, Canada exported 1,322,401 tonnes during the first half of the current marketing season (August 2025–January 2026). This is about 15% or 241,537 tonnes lower than the 1,563,938 tonnes exported in the same period of the 2024–25 season.
However, monthly exports of peas increased from 125,111 tonnes in December 2025 to 190,480 tonnes in January 2026. Out of this, 81,697 tonnes of yellow peas were exported to India in January.
