Canada: Pulses Sowing Assessment
Lentils
★ Sowing is up by 4% compared to last year and also above the five-year average.
★ Large green lentil acreage increased by 29%, while small green and other classes also saw gains.
★ Red lentil acreage dropped sharply by 41%.
★ In recent years, red lentils had the largest acreage, but this year, the area under large green and red lentils is nearly the same.

Peas
★ Overall pea acreage increased by 9.1%.
★ In Saskatchewan, sowing rose by 2.2%, while Alberta saw a 20.5% increase.
★ Yellow pea acreage declined in Saskatchewan, while green peas rose by 23%.

Kabuli Chickpeas
★ Sowing rose by 12.5% to 541,000 acres, the highest in several years.
★ Although chickpea prices are not very attractive, some lentil growers shifted to chickpeas to avoid root rot issues.
