Canada Pulses Export Report: Peas Strong, Lentils & Chickpeas Show Mixed Trend
Peas: India remains the largest buyer
★ Canada exported 190,000 tonnes of peas in January, up 15% from December. However, cumulative exports for the current season stand at 1.322 million tonnes, about 200,000 tonnes lower than last year.
★ India has imported around 500,000 tonnes so far, making it the top buyer. Meanwhile, China’s purchases have dropped sharply to 104,000 tonnes this year from 413,000 tonnes last year.
★ Lower Chinese demand may shift global supplies toward India.

Lentils: Imports declines
★ Canada exported 165,000 tonnes of lentils in January, down 34% from December. Total exports so far this season are 1.191 million tonnes, slightly down (2%) year-on-year.
★ India remains the largest buyer with about 30% share (around 353,000 tonnes), followed by Turkey and the UAE.
★ Tight global supply may support lentil prices in India, although steady import demand will keep the market balanced.
~~~~~~~~
Chickpeas: Monthly decline, yearly growth intact
★ Chickpea exports fell 12% in January to 19,840 tonnes. However, cumulative exports have reached 115,000 tonnes this season, up 27% compared to last year.
★ The United States, Turkey, and Pakistan are the key buyers.
Overall Market Impact
