Vancouver. A leading Canadian trade analyst states that the country is likely to export larger volumes of lentils to India in the coming months, while Bangladesh, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are also expected to remain major buyers. Canada currently holds substantial exportable stocks of lentils; however, the crisis in West Asia remains a cause for serious concern.

Bulk exports of lentils from Canada have surged by 42 percent—from 877,000 tonnes last year—to reach 1.25 million tonnes this year, while pea shipments have also risen by 31 percent—from 1.6 million tonnes—to reach 2.1 million tonnes.

Compared to peas, a larger number of countries import lentils. Approximately 70 percent of Canada's pea exports are directed to China and India, whereas lentils are exported to countries across Asia, South America, the Mediterranean region, and Europe.

Canada possesses available stocks of both lentils and peas, and strong demand for these commodities is currently being observed across various nations.
