Brazilian farmers are increasingly interested in selling their soybeans due to favorable market conditions, including better prices and a favorable exchange rate.
As the harvest for the 2024-25 soybean season begins, farmers have already contracted the sale of over 608 lakh tonnes of soybeans, amounting to 35% of the estimated total production for the season.
This season, Brazil’s soybean production is expected to hit an all-time high of 1700 lakh tonnes, which will significantly boost the country's exportable supply.
Despite a slowdown in soybean exports to China in recent months, Brazilian exporters are optimistic about an increase in export activity.
This is partly because China, the largest importer of Brazilian soybeans, has been holding back on purchases while awaiting the resolution of US trade policy, which is expected by mid-February.
Once the policy is clear, and as Brazil’s soybean harvesting picks up pace, exports are anticipated to rise.
The Brazilian Real is influenced by the US dollar exchange rate, and a 10-cent strengthening of the dollar increases soybean prices by 5 Real per sack, further incentivizing Brazilian farmers to sell their crops at competitive prices.
