Barley Production Estimated to Exceed 2.3 Million Tonnes

New Delhi. The production of barley, a major coarse grain produced during the Rabi season, is expected to increase significantly this year by over 400,000 tons.

Acreage under cultivation has increased in Rajasthan. Nationally, barley sowing area has increased by 129,000 hectares from 60,800 hectares in the 2024-25 season to 73,700,000 hectares in the 2025-26 season. Other states have also seen good sowing.

The Union Agriculture Ministry has estimated domestic barley production to reach a peak of 234,000 tons in the current Rabi season of 2025-26, an increase of 42,000 tons from the 2024-25 production of 191,900 tons.

Earlier, domestic production of barley was 16.99 lakh tonnes in 2023-24, 19.13 lakh tonnes in 2022-23 and 13.71 lakh tonnes in the season 2021-22. This time there will be good availability of barley.
