Mumbai. Despite repeated requests by the indigenous industry to the government to lift the ban, it appears that the ban on the export of de-oiled rice bran (DORB) may continue. Although the ban expired on 31 July 2024, it may be extended further.
The Eastern Region Chairman of Solvent Extractors Association of India, a leading industry body,
has said that a notification extending the export ban may be issued at any moment. It is only a matter of time.
It is worth noting that in view of the increase in the prices of dairy products, the government had banned the export of de-oiled rice bran (rice bran extraction) in July 2023.
Earlier its deadline was fixed till 31 March 2024, which was later extended to 31 July 2024. Meanwhile,
the Solvent Extractors Association of India has been repeatedly urging that the ban deadline should not be extended beyond July 31.
The executive director of the association says that there is still confusion in this matter because the government has not announced its trade policy on de-oiled rice bran.
The association has also e-mailed the Ministry of Commerce to clarify the situation in this regard. Its reply is awaited.
The rice industry of West Bengal is extremely worried and upset by the ban imposed on the export of rice bran extraction.
Earlier, 5-6 lakh tonnes of DORB was exported from the country annually to various countries of South-East Asia, which earned valuable foreign exchange for the country and also provided relief to the industry.
