Brisbane. Australia's government agency - ABARES has estimated domestic production of 11 lakh tonnes of gram and 16 lakh tonnes of lentils during the 2024-25 season in its new report.
Sowing of both these crops is still going on. In the ABARES report, the sowing area of all winter pulse crops in Australia is expected to increase by 17 percent compared to last year and reach 25 lakh hectares this time. Under this, there is a possibility of good increase in the area of gram and lentils.
According to the report, the production area of gram in Australia is expected to jump by about 80 percent compared to the 2023-24 season to reach 7.30 lakh hectares in the 2024-25 season, which is 24 percent more than the 10-year average area. Farmers are expected to get huge profits from the boom in gram this year.
Apart from this, the weather is also favorable for sowing gram in major producing states like Queensland and New South Wales. This time the production of gram is estimated to increase by 133 percent compared to last year.
Similarly, the sowing area of lentil is expected to increase rapidly and reach a new record level of 8.85 lakh hectares, but its production is likely to be almost equal to last year because there will be an increase in the sowing area but there is a possibility of a decline in the average yield rate of the crop.
