The area under coriander cultivation in Gujarat has seen a positive shift after initially lagging behind last year. As of January 13, 2025, the sowing area has increased by 2.6%, reaching over 1.30 lakh hectares, which is an improvement of 3400 hectares compared to the same period last year. However, it is still 17.70% below the three-year average.
The increase is particularly notable in the Saurashtra division, where the area under coriander cultivation has risen by 2.83%, reflecting a strong interest from farmers in this crop.
While other regions of Gujarat have limited coriander sowing, the trend in Saurashtra is encouraging for the spice's production.
Despite the growth in Gujarat, the area under cumin cultivation in the state has decreased this year, contrasting with the rise in coriander acreage.
Additionally, coriander sowing in other major producing states like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh is reported to be normal.
The sowing and preparation for the harvest of both coriander and cumin typically coincide in the Rabi season, contributing to the seasonal agricultural rhythm in these regions.
