New Delhi. The Directorate of Sugar and Vegetable Oils, a subsidiary of the Union Ministry of Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, has set a quota of 2.2 million tonnes of sugar for millers across the country for domestic sale during December 2025,
an increase of 200,000 tonnes from the November quota of 2 million tonnes. Although no major festivals are celebrated in December, the season of weddings and auspicious celebrations is expected to increase sugar demand and consumption. Perhaps keeping this in mind, the government has increased the sugar quota.
It is worth noting that jaggery production and consumption also increase in December. Overall, this quota should maintain a better balance between demand and supply in the domestic sugar market, preventing sharp price fluctuations or sharp declines.
For sale in the month of December, free sale quota of sugar has been fixed at 6596 tonnes for Andhra Pradesh, 65,480 tonnes for Bihar, 3951 tonnes for Chhattisgarh, 65,581 tonnes for Gujarat, 48,065 tonnes for Haryana,
4,23,837 tonnes for Karnataka, 40,208 tonnes for Madhya Pradesh, 785 tonnes for Rajasthan, 82,282 tonnes for Tamil Nadu, 19,611 tonnes for Telangana, 6,56,591 tonnes for Uttar Pradesh and 31,755 tonnes for Uttarakhand, which will be effective from 1 December 2025.
