The export of oil meal from India has seen a slight decline in the first nine months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Specifically, the export dropped by 10%, from 34.97 lakh tonnes in 2023 to 31.51 lakh tonnes in 2024.

However, Kandla port in Gujarat played a significant role, accounting for about one-third of the total export of De-Oiled Cake (DOC) during this period.

The export from Kandla increased from 10.16 lakh tonnes to 10.72 lakh tonnes, while exports from other ports like Mundra and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) saw changes in their shipment figures.

Mundra port, for instance, experienced a decline from 11.69 lakh tonnes to 7.13 lakh tonnes, and Kolkata port saw a sharp drop from 1.10 lakh tonnes to just 12 thousand tonnes.

On the other hand, exports from Mumbai/JNPT surged from 2.77 lakh tonnes to 5.07 lakh tonnes, while other ports experienced a modest decrease.

In terms of pricing, the export offer price for soymeal dropped to $363 per tonne in December 2024, down from $539 per tonne in December 2023, making it more attractive to importing countries.

This price reduction contributed to an increase in soymeal exports. However, mustard oil cake (rapeseed meal) exports remained weak during this period.
