Wheat Procurement for Rabi 2025-26 Crosses 23.80 Lakh Tons
★ Government Procurement of Wheat for Rabi Season 2025-26 Reaches 23.80 Lakh Metric Tons So Far.
★ Madhya Pradesh continues to lead in wheat procurement, with a total of 20,11,263.11 metric tons purchased so far. It is followed by Haryana with 15,075.35 metric tons and Rajasthan with 2,02,728.94 metric tons.
★ Procurement has also started in Punjab, where 2,909.05 metric tons of wheat have been procured so far, against an estimated target of 124 lakh metric tons. From Uttar Pradesh (Eastern and Western regions), 60,616.03 and 81,716.47 metric tons of wheat have been purchased respectively.
★ Procurement is ongoing in other states as well, including Gujarat, Bihar, and Uttarakhand. However, no procurement has been reported yet from some states like Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Chandigarh.
★ It remains to be seen how far the government procurement reaches. Due to the bumper crop, wheat prices in mandis (markets) are around the MSP, and the procurement pace has increased in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan owing to bonus incentives.
★ Recently, due to changes in weather—northern winds, storms, rain, and hailstorm in some areas—harvesting is getting delayed. In some mandis, wheat stored in the open has been washed away, and in some areas, harvested crops were hit by rain, which could result in discolored grains.
★ A report on how much the weather changes have impacted the crop will be provided soon. If the extent of damage increases, it could have an effect on prices.
