Wheat Prices Recover Amid Buying at Lower Levels
New Delhi: While the season for harvesting and preparing the new wheat crop has commenced, the anticipated pressure from increased supply has not yet materialized in the *mandis* (wholesale markets). The pace of government procurement remains sluggish. In most markets, wheat prices have dropped below the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2,585 per quintal; consequently, interest in purchasing wheat—from millers, processors, traders, and stockists—witnessed a slight uptick during the week of April 4–10.
Delhi
During the week under review, wheat prices in Delhi improved by ₹20, reaching a range of ₹2,525–₹2,550 per quintal. In Indore, prices rose by ₹150, settling between ₹2,230 and ₹3,100 per quintal.
Gujarat
In Rajkot, Gujarat, prices declined by ₹200. Conversely, markets in Madhya Pradesh witnessed a price surge of ₹120–₹125 per quintal.
UP / Rajasthan
In Rajasthan, wheat prices rose by ₹50 in Bundi and by ₹100 in Kota. Major markets in Uttar Pradesh also saw an improvement of ₹20–₹25, while in Maharashtra's Jalna market, wheat prices surged by ₹250, reaching a range of ₹2,100–₹2,700 per quintal.
Arrivals
Delhi witnessed an average daily arrival of 8,000–10,000 bags of wheat, whereas supply levels in major markets across other states of the country fluctuated. The wheat crop has suffered damage due to storms and rainfall, resulting in a deterioration of grain quality. Nevertheless, total production is still expected to exceed that of the previous year. Wheat arrivals are anticipated to increase in the coming days.
