Urad Market Decline Continues; Weak Demand Pressures Prices
Chennai: A downward trend persisted in the Urad market throughout the current week. The market remained under constant pressure due to increased selling activity and sluggish consumer demand, resulting in a softening of prices. Demand for Urad dal remained relatively weak, which, in turn, kept purchasing activity by dal millers limited. Reduced buying by millers impacted the consumption of Urad, leaving the market without any significant support. Amidst ample availability at the ports, the continued lack of demand intensified supply-side pressure, thereby maintaining constant downward pressure on prices. According to I Grain India, the pressure on Urad prices is likely to persist until there is an improvement in the demand for pulses. Driven by increased selling pressure from importers and sluggish demand, Urad prices in Chennai recorded a decline of ₹100–175 per quintal this week; following this drop, prices settled at ₹8,000 per quintal for FAQ (Fair Average Quality) grade and ₹8,575 per quintal for SQ (Superior Quality) grade. Similarly, Urad prices in Mumbai witnessed a decline of ₹150 per quintal this week, bringing the rates down to ₹8,000 per quintal by the weekend.
Burma
