Mixed trend in the price of paddy and rice according to demand and supply
New Delhi. Due to softening of rice prices in the global export market, Indian shippers are also being forced to reduce the offer price, so millers-processors and exporters are not getting incentive to buy paddy and rice at high prices in domestic markets. Very little non-Basmati rice is arriving in the Indian markets during the Kharif period, while the harvesting and preparation of Rabi period rice has not gained momentum yet. Basmati rice is also arriving less than before.
Delhi
During the week of April 12 to 18, daily arrival of paddy in Delhi's Narela Mandi was between 6 to 12 thousand sacks and there was an improvement of Rs 140 in the price of 1509 hands and Rs 100 per quintal in the price of 1847. The price of paddy remained stable with negligible arrival in Najafgarh Mandi.
Arrival
500 bags of paddy were supplied daily in Bhatpara Mandi of Chhattisgarh and 1000/1200 bags of paddy were supplied daily in Rajim Mandi, whereas due to weak demand from buyers, prices fell by Rs. 100-200 per quintal. 3-3 thousand bags of paddy arrived in Amritsar, Punjab on 16-17 April but there was no change in prices.
Uttar Pradesh
Despite limited arrival of paddy in various Mandis of Uttar Pradesh- Etah, Mainpuri, Jahangirabad, Shahjahanpur and Aligarh, prices fluctuated by Rs. 100-200 per quintal due to sluggish business. There was negligible arrival of paddy in other Mandis.
Rajasthan
Daily between 10 to 15 thousand bags of paddy are arriving in Bundi, Rajasthan and buyers are also purchasing it in good quantity, due to which the prices of Sugandha and 1847 increased by Rs 100-100 per quintal during the week. Daily arrival of paddy between 3 to 5 thousand bags was seen in Kota Mandi, but the price softened a bit.
Rice
As far as rice is concerned, due to sluggish business in most of the mandis, its prices remained stable. In Amritsar, the price of 1509 Sela improved by Rs 50 and the price of 1401 Steam improved by Rs 100 per quintal. In Bundi, the price of 1509 rice increased by Rs 50 and the price of 1718 Sela softened by Rs 125 per quintal. In Haryana's benchmark Karnal Mandi, the price of 1509 steam rice improved by Rs 100 and reached Rs 6200/6300 per quintal.
Delhi
Due to good business in some varieties of rice in Delhi's Naya Bazar, prices have increased by Rs 100-200 per quintal. The export performance of Basmati rice is going better.
