Lentil prices soften due to sluggish demand
Mumbai. Lentil prices softened during the current week due to lack of demand. The Canadian Ministry of Agriculture has estimated the average market price of lentils to be somewhat soft due to better production during the 2024-25 marketing season as compared to 2023-24. In Australia, the government agency- ABARES has projected a production of 1.6 million tonnes of lentils, which is almost equal to the 2023-24 season. Russia's production is being monitored. In India, the price of lentils has increased less than other pulses and Indian importers are not very active at present due to limited stock and high prices in exporting countries. Lentil production in America is likely to be almost normal. The pace of lentil imports in India may pick up from August-September. The arrival of Australian crop may start in October. Due to continued selling by importers and weak buying, Mumbai lentil prices witnessed a decline of Rs 25/50 per quintal this week and with this decline, the prices remained at Rs 6100 for Mundra, Rs 6100 for Hazira and Rs 6225/6300 per quintal for container at the weekend. Similarly, the prices of Kolkata lentils also witnessed a decline of Rs 25 per quintal this week and the prices remained at Rs 6275/6300 per quintal at the weekend.
Delhi
Due to continued selling by dal millers, the prices of Delhi lentils witnessed a decline of Rs 25 per quintal this week and with this decline, the prices remained at Rs 6575 for Choti Kota, Rs 7000 for Bundi, Rs 7050 for Uttar Pradesh and Rs 6675 per quintal for Desi Badi at the weekend.
Madhya Pradesh
Due to increased selling and weak demand, during the current week, a fall of Rs. 50/100 per quintal was observed in the prices of lentils in Madhya Pradesh and the prices at the weekend remained at Ashoknagar Rs. 6000/6100, Ganjbasoda Rs. 5800/6200, Sagar Rs. 5700/6150, Damoh Rs. 5800/6200, Indore Rs. 6200 and Katni Rs. 6600/25 per quintal.
Uttar Pradesh
Due to sluggish buying and selling, a fall of Rs. 25/50 per quintal was observed in the prices of lentils in Uttar Pradesh during the current week and the prices at the weekend remained at Bareilly Choti Rs. 7100/7150, Moti Rs. 6650/6675, Kanpur Rs. 6525 and Lalitpur Moti Rs. 6000/6075, Choti Rs. 6300/6325 per quintal.
Others
Due to sporadic buying, Bihar lentil prices witnessed a rise of Rs 50 per quintal during the current week and with this rise, the prices remained at Rs 6550 for Barh, Rs 6450 for Khusrupur and Rs 6550 per quintal for Mokama at the weekend. Similarly, Raipur lentil also increased by Rs 50 per quintal this week and reached Rs 6350 per quintal at the weekend.
Masoor Dal
Due to the impact of the fall in lentil prices and sluggish demand, the prices of lentil lentils witnessed a fall of Rs 50 per quintal this week and with this fall, the prices remained at Rs 7650 for Jalgaon, Rs 7500/7700 for Indore, Rs 7500/7800 for Barh and Rs 7400/7700 for Khusrupur at the weekend.
