Rise in Chana Prices Driven by Improved Demand
New Delhi: A firm trend was observed in the Chana market during the current week. Following a decline in prices over the preceding days, selling activity by farmers and traders subsided somewhat, while, conversely, an improvement in demand was recorded. Consequently, a slight recovery was witnessed in Chana prices. Meanwhile, the arrival of the new Chana crop has gradually begun to increase in the major producing markets (mandis) of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Harvesting has commenced in several regions, and the availability of the new crop in the markets is on the rise. Although arrivals are reported to be limited in this initial phase, they are expected to increase further in the coming days. Given the influx of the new crop, activity among stockists and pulse millers has also intensified. Millers are procuring stocks with an eye on future requirements, while stockists are also lifting material at the prevailing lower price levels. This provided support to market demand, resulting in a recorded improvement in prices. Driven by increased buying from pulse millers, Delhi Chana prices witnessed a recovery of ₹50 per quintal this week; with this correction, prices at the week's end settled at ₹5,550–₹5,575 per quintal for the Madhya Pradesh line and ₹5,625–₹5,650 per quintal for the Rajasthan line.
Ports
Due to a slowdown in selling by importers coupled with rising demand, imported Chana recorded a price surge of ₹100 per quintal this week. Following this upward movement, prices reached ₹5,200 per quintal for the Mumbai (Tanzania) line, ₹5,425 per quintal for the Nhava Sheva (Australia) line, and ₹5,350 per quintal for the Mundra line.

Maharashtra
Due to increased availability of new Chana arrivals in producing markets and selling pressure, Maharashtra Chana prices witnessed a decline of ₹75–150 per quintal during the current week.
