Urge not to extend the deadline of export ban on rice bran extraction

Mumbai. Solvent Extractors Association of India (C), a leading body of indigenous vegetable oil industry and trade sector, has requested the Central Government not to extend the ban on export of rice bran extraction (de-oiled rice bran or DORB). Have done.

It may be noted that in July 2023, the government had earlier announced a ban on export of DORB till March 31, 2024 and then extended its period by four months till July 2024. In this way exports were banned for a whole year. 

DORB is used extensively in animal feed manufacturing. There has been an annual export of about 5-6 lakh tonnes of rice bran extraction from India, which was mainly shipped to many other countries including Vietnam and Thailand.

India remained a stable and reliable supplier of rice in the international market and this was providing a lot of relief to the rice industry, but the government suddenly banned the export of non-Basmati white (raw) rice as well as de-oiled rice bran in July 2023. Banned. As a result, the prices in the domestic market started falling rapidly. 

The association says that if the export ban remains in force, the price of de-oiled rice bran may fall further, which may cause huge losses especially to the rice millers of West Bengal as it has been exported on a large scale from there.
