The Cereals and Other Products Regulatory Authority (COPRA) of Tanzania has announced the marketing season for pulses and oilseeds for the 2024-25 season, aiming to promote transparency and fair pricing through an online trading auction platform. The trading will be conducted under the Warehouse Receipt (Godown Receipt) system, providing a reliable marketplace for producers and traders.

Key details include:

  • Moong: Trading starts in January 2025.
  • Sesame: Trading begins in April 2025.
  • Gram and Pigeon Pea (Tuvar): Trading commences in June 2025.
  • Soybean: Trading begins in May 2025.

COPRA has emphasized that all traders and producers must adhere to the issued guidelines. This move is designed to enhance the marketing of these crops and ensure effective pricing mechanisms. Notably, India is a significant importer of gram and pigeon pea (tuvar) from Tanzania, despite high import duties on Desi gram, thanks to a special relief facility.
