Production of fennel likely to decrease significantly in Gujarat

It looks like fennel production is facing a significant challenge, especially in Gujarat, where the area under cultivation has halved due to poor pricing and unfavorable weather conditions.

The drop in sowing area—by over 50 percent in Gujarat alone—could have a big impact on supply for the upcoming season.

Despite stocks being available in key markets like Unjha, Bikaner, and Delhi, it’s unlikely these will fully make up for the reduced crop.

If the weather conditions continue to be unfavorable in other states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, the overall fennel production might remain lower than expected.

As the new crop begins to come in, it’s reasonable to expect that fennel prices might rise, especially with the ongoing activity from stockists, traders, and exporters.

The reduced production combined with strong demand could create pressure on prices, which might stay elevated.
