The total production area of pulses during the Rabi season has seen a slight increase of 70,000 hectares, reaching 13.981 million hectares by January 10, compared to 13.911 million hectares last year.

However, this is still marginally below the normal average area of 14.044 million hectares. Key pulse crops like gram and moong saw improvements in sowing, while other pulses, including lentils, peas, urad, and khesari, experienced minor declines or remained stable.

While the sowing area of gram increased slightly from 9.587 million hectares to 9.665 million hectares, the area for lentils, peas, black gram, and khesari recorded small reductions.

The area under horse gram remained stable. The Agriculture Ministry indicates that the weather conditions are favorable, and the crop's production could be better than last year if the weather remains consistent through January and February.

However, there hasn't been any drastic change in sowing areas for the different pulse crops this season.
