News Capsule: Telangana to procure 1.5 million tonnes of maize
★ The Telangana government will procure about 1.489 million tonnes (around 1.5 million tonnes) of maize at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2,400 per quintal.
★ The procurement will be carried out through Telangana State Cooperative Marketing Federation Limited (TS MARKFED).
★ Maize production in the state this year is estimated at 4.32 million tonnes, of which nearly one-third will be procured by the government.
★ The crop has been cultivated over about 700,000 hectares, with an average yield estimated at 65.66 quintals per hectare.
★ While the MSP is ₹2,400 per quintal, market prices are currently hovering around ₹1,600 per quintal.
★ So far, the government has procured 0.242 million tonnes of maize.
